For those of you that follow us on social media I’m sure by now you would have heard us talking about Global Bookkeeping Week (If not check out Facebook or LinkedIn for our competition). But, I imagine there are still a lot of you wondering what it is all about and why is there a Global Bookkeeping Week.
If you google the term Bookkeeping or Bookkeeper it will tell you that “bookkeeping is the activity or occupation of keeping records of the financial affairs of a business”. Bookkeeper is a very old term and it is only recently that bookkeeping in NZ has been recognized as a profession, including being recognised by Government. This is mainly due to the tireless work being done by the amazing volunteers (of which we’re proud to say Sue is one) who run what was formerly the NZ Bookkeepers Association, but, since 2017 and the joint venture with ICB Global, has been called ICNZB (Institute of Certified New Zealand Bookkeepers). Sue is both on the Executive Committee and Treasurer for this amazing organisation which exists to ensure bookkeepers are recognized as professionals and to lobby on behalf of bookkeepers (and therefore small business) throughout New Zealand. So, Global Bookkeeping week is an ICB Global initiative to celebrate bookkeepers and what they add to your business.
For those of you that already work with a great bookkeeper you will know the value they bring to your business, because they very much become part of your team. Sadly, all too often, we see work that has been completed by people who don’t know what they don’t know and unfortunately, to put it bluntly, stuff it up, leaving a mess to tidy up. The bookkeeping team at 3rd Arm Admin are all Certified Bookkeepers with ICNZB. To maintain their membership, they need to ensure continuing professional development (ongoing education) and adhere to the standards and ethics of the Association. Obviously, the benefits of this to your business are immense.
A great bookkeeper is invaluable to your business, adding value by finding smarter, more efficient ways to keep your information accurate and up to date by using technology and years of experience. This all enables you to get on with running your business knowing that the bookkeeping is under control. It frees you up to get on with what you love, whether that be growing the business, more family time or even the ever-elusive holiday.
