There really is no end to the list of fantastic apps out there that help make life easier. Here’s a few for you, whether you’re into fitness, want to track your sleeping habits or would like to save time and money on exorbitant parking charges.
MapMyRun
This is my favourite app – an oldie but a goodie. What I love about this app is it can be set up for running, biking or walking. You can enter your location and it will show you a map of all the trail runs that others have done in that area. You can see on the map if it is a loop or if you run there and back on the same track (not a fan of that!) If you drill down into the run, you get more information such as the distance and elevation plus other runners rate their experience. This app also tracks the distance and speed you run. You can set alarms to let you know when you have completed a certain distance, e.g. 1 km every km. It also compares your runs, even down to each km; and if you are improving or just had a bad day. There are work out guides and lots of blogs about nutrition, motivation and even recipes. You can share your activity on social media. So many tools, it is hard to believe that this is free.
Sleep Cycle
My current favourite app is Sleep Cycle – nothing to do with work at all except the day is an awful lot better after you’ve had a good night’s sleep. Sleep Cycle is not invasive at all – my phone simply lies on the bedside table or on the floor beside me and this app tracks my sleep quality, regularity and yep even the snoring. I had never before made the connection between what I ate and drank or how stressed I was and how it affected my sleep. Now, I have months worth of data, am able to enter notes and view graphs which is putting me in control of my sleep patterns. The other part to the app that I love is that it wakes you up when you are in your light sleep rather than being in a deep sleep and waking to a terrible sounding alarm.
ParkMate
I was running late for a rehearsal one day, didn’t know how long it was going to go for, and didn’t have any cash on me. Panic! Pulled into a parking building and saw a sign for ParkMate – downloaded the app, took 1 minute to register, and parking problem solved.
There’s so many great things about it, for example:
- Map shows parking locations and their prices.
- Can have multiple cars registered (so doesn’t matter if you’re in a different car for the day).
- Charges to your credit card – no need to have cash, display any tickets, or carry anything to pay for when you return.
- Receive notifications that your parking time is nearly up – no chance of forgetting and getting a ticket!
- Great if you’re held up in a meeting…takes 2 seconds to extend your parking time from wherever you are.
- Save money, get charged only for the time used – it will calculate the best rate.
